Yeeehaaa!!!

We had our first padded practice yesterday...

AND IT WAS A BLAST! Man, I forgot how much fun hitting was, especially when you are going up against guys that are 180 lbs at full speed. Wow. Can't describe it. I really need to get someone to videotape some of our hitting drills so that I can show ya'll what it is like. The only bad thing about it was that my shoulder pads were a little loose, so on every hit they came up and hit my jaw, which is now severely bruised. I would say that it is almost impossible to chew, but as Katie Beth knows, nothing will stop me from chewing. ;-)

Highlight: Although I am the smallest kid on the varsity team by at least 20 lbs, I had both coaches and some players tell me that I had a lot of guts. And I can prove it because I already have a couple of chunks taken out of my helmet. YEAH, BABY!

Wow. Eth, it made my day to get on here at work (I'm on lunch break) and see a couple posts to read and comment on. =)

I really want to hit someone at full speed. That actually sounds *fun.* I must admit, I laugh at the thought of you pounding someone because you are kind of small... How do you get chunks (I'm assuming that's what you meant to type...) taken out of your helmet?

Hey, go to Schola's photobucket and the Summer Academy album. Manuel just uploaded his pictures. Look in the pictures with everyone's doffee reaction and check out the picture of you. You look *dead.* And it's a *hilarious* face.

Can't wait for pictures. (Make sure it's a good one of your haircut so that we can give you accurate feedback.) ;-)

Wooow, it sounds fun! And ditto to Shannon, how *do* you get chunks taken out of your helmet?

And that picture on Schola's photobucket is *hilarious*! :-D

Heh, the album cover for my "Song of the Mouth" is a picture of you doing the Cha-Cha Slide.

*grins*

Girls, I can absolutely imagine him with chunks out of his helmet. Yep... that's Ethan, alright.

That's great news about your truck, down there! Praise God. :-)

oh, i can imagine him only having half a helmet by the time he's done with practice, but i want to know *how* it happens...

How about this: at the end of the season I will take 3 or 4 pictures of my helmet and show you what I mean.

And Shannon, you would be slightly shocked if you knew how it happened... ;-) Hitting drills. There are many different types, but the one that dings up your helmet are the one-on-one's. Two people stand 10 yards apart, facing each other. A coach stands behind one of them. He throws the football to the player 10 yards away, and as soon as that player catches it he runs straight ahead, as does the other player. Full speed. Helmet to helmet. POP! Yeah, everyone on the team gets headaches; no joke. I have had a headache since Monday that goes away when practice is over, but comes back on the first hit the next day. We all just take 2-3 Advil's before practice, lol. You should really see it.

wow. that does NOT sound like fun. it sounds *so* fun to hit people; just not helmet to helmet. yikes! have you ever gotten a concussion, eth?

i really *should* see a hitting drill. i just don't have any friends up here that play football.

It isn't fun; its a blast! Nope, no concussions, though headaches all the time. ;-)

You should just YouTube search hitting drills (type in "Oklahoma hitting drill") or something like that.

I understand the headaches all the time; I got a concussion last spring, had a constant headache for a year and still get headaches a couple times a week. I really want to see one of those drills now. I will look for a video clip of them.
