First Blood...and other things

And it wasn't ours...

We played our first full-padded scrimmage last night against a different team. We killed them, 24-0. It would have been 30-0 but we fumbled in the endzone on our first drive, and they got the ball back. But I started as cornerback (wohoo!) and completely shut down my man. They threw it to him once, but I was able to break it up. I had no tackles, thanks to our defensive line, who wouldn't even let the running back get to me, although I jumped on the pile more than once so I wouldn't feel left out. When you get that adrenaline pumping...man! Needless to say, it was a blast. Even better then swing dancing...

;-) *dodges multiple shoes*

Anyway, just thought that I would let you know what has been going on. I am actually pretty proud of myself for starting varsity, especially when half the team is black and when I am the smallest by at least 20 pounds. Tooting my own horn, maybe. But hey! That's football. :-)

The truck is still in the shop, and should be out by next Wednesday at the latest. So that's good. I have been working extra hours so that I can get the stupid thing paid off. It really takes the motivation out of you when you know that you are working for free...basically. When the money you make is already consumed...man. Not a good feeling. But enough whining. I have learned my lesson: short, yellow steel poles can really sneak up on you!

I love August...for a few reasons. (1 My birthday, 2) Football officially starts, and 3) Football officially starts. The last two are really important. You know its August when the sports section in the paper is split 50/50 talking about baseball and football. Love to see guys in pads again. Guys with bats and gloves were getting old. IT IS UPON US! LONG LIVE FOOTBALL!

Ethan! Way to go for making varsity! That's exciting...Can't exactly sympathize with your commen regarding baseball, but I understand your excitement (or something like that :-P). I can't believe I'm the first to comment, especially when you have such a following. ;-)

Hey, Ethan! Congratulations on the win! I have been reading through all of your posts just now, and I didn't even know you posted on your blog! Those are cool pictures, by the way! Tennis clothes don't exactly make the man quite so much as football pads. Oh well . . .

Oh, and it was really great to finally meet you at SA! You drank Doffee like a champ, and I even enjoyed . . . err . . . trying to play football.

Anyhow, good luck in the rest of your season, and let me know when you are visiting Hillsdale! Have you called the athletic department there? Who knows, you may be just what the 2008 Hillsdale Chargers need!

Nice, Eth. =)

Some things *are* better than swing dancing...although I definetely wouldn't say football is one of them. ;-)

What kind of team do you play for? It is the local highschool team? And yay for you starting varsity! I wish I could go to one of your games...

When I was going through the drive through at McDonalds, I thought I saw a yellow steel pole in the corner of my eye. My heart skipped a beat. I think you're going to give me nightmares, Eth. =)

August is a GREAT month...although it won't be so great this year since Andrew's leaving. *sigh* And yay for birthdays. =)

Yay for baseball having two more months! Guys with baseballs and bats is NOT getting old. We still have October to look forward to! ;-)

That was really Andrew, by the way, Eth. Haha. ;-)

And Eth, you're not graduating until 2009, right?

Hana tells me she's been talking to you. :-D Just a random comment there...

If I got the newspaper or paid attention to the news I might agree with you.

Yay for birthdays! Very soon you'll be... well, not old, but closer. ;-D

Andrew: Thanks! Dude, it's awesome to see you on here! Thanks for commenting. About my following: it seems I have a fan club...what can I say? The people love me. ;-)

Manuel: Thanks, Manuel! It's good to see you on here too! I didn't know I posted on my blog either until recently. It took something like twenty-two comments to get me going, heh. lol, about Doffee... ;-) You were awesome at football. Thanks for playing! I have not called their athletic department yet, since my parents and I have decided that I am going to graduate in 09 instead...I will only be 17 next year. That way I can bulk up, play some more football, and have a better chance at a scholarship if that is what God wants me to do.

Shannon: Hate to break it to you, but football is better. ;-) I play for a team that was created for highschools without football teams and for homeschoolers, although we get a lot of public schoolers too that didn't make their team. I will have to get some game film for you and send it to you, Shannon. LOL about the post. Watch out for them; they can really sneak up on you. Right. I will be an 09er.

Oh, sorry if this makes you feel stupid again, but my middle name does *not* start with a J. I think Faith is the only one who posts on this thing that knows my middle name.

Music will come, Shan, music will come. ;-)

Katie Beth: Yeah, she has been. My texting bill is going to be insane. ;-) Birthdays are awesome.

OK. I think it's time for me to stop posting and stop commenting and stop communicating over the internet. Good thing you've actually met me because if you hadn't, you'd probably think i'm the biggest blond ditz that ever lived...(or maybe you think that even though you HAVE met me...haha). But I blame me thinking your middle initial started with a J on you and your handwriting. You *so* signed my summer academy book "Ethan J Brandt." If that's not a J; i don't know what is. =)

And game film sounds fun. I want to see you barrel into someone. That sounds like FUN. ;-)

Yellow posts are here to stay. Yesterday I was Dad and I were parallel parking at the driver's test place (I'm going on Thursday!) and there was a yellow pole that I had to keep my eye out for when I was backing up and turning around. I laughed every time I saw it.

Class of '09 will be the best yet. Gosh, 2009 sounds so far away...but only two more years of highschool sounds alot better. Being a junior sounds the best. =)

(Why is it that my comments always end up being so long? I hope you don't mind, Eth. Hey, it helps give you the impression that you quite the following and that the whole world loves you. =P)

You are awesome, Shan. And although I can't deny that you are blond, you aren't a ditz at all. So don't worry. Believe me, I know a couple of blonde ditzes. *shudders*

Handwriting has always been a problem for me, although with a signiture it's different. Everyone is suppose to know your name and then interpret the handwriting from that. My middle name is Thomas. That "J" is a T. ;-)

I will see what I can do about game film...

Hey, don't laugh at yellow poles! They are anything but funny. You might anger them, and we *all* know what happens then, heh.

2009 seems so close; only one more season after this one and my football career could possibly be over!! Ah! As much as I love the game, I don't think I could bare it. That is why I am going to look into the Hillsdale football program as well as the Grove City College football program, both of which I am seriously considering along with NSA. And if I went to Grove City, I would be like one hour from the Odell family. *That* would be cool.

I don't mind long comments at all. Keep 'em coming, Shan, just like that email you owe me... *cough*
