And it was amazing. I started my first varsity game on Friday, and man, it was a blast. We played a team called Derita Christian. It was their first year as a school and as a football team, so they didn't have a lot of kids (probably around 20 on the team) but they were ALL black, except for one white wide receiver. They were pretty small, averaging about 180 lbs and in between 5' 9" and 6' 2". But they were FAST. They were a one-man team, though. They had a very fast and quick quarterback, and he ran for probably 200+ yards. All they would do is snap the ball to him, and he would wait in the pocket until our 3 defensive linemen got through, then he would run around them, and just take off, leaving just 2 inside linebackers to take him, because his receivers had cleared our corners and outside linebackers (when I say clear, I mean that they ran deep patterns so that their quarterback would have plenty of space to run.) By the end of the first half, altough we were up 12-0, we had completely changed our defense around to control that guy. He always wanted to run outside; never up the middle. So we started the second half with a new contain defense, which meant that no matter what, us corners and outside linebackers were not to allow that guy to get outside of us...we were to force him inside where we would get help from our inside linebackers, linemen, and safteys. It worked really well, and I had 3 tackles in a row on one series (I ended the game with 5 tackles.)
But they finally scored in the 3rd quarter, making it 12-6 (we blocked the extra point). Our offense in the second half was atrocious, with less then 50 yards and no points. But our defense held strong until the end, and I mean to the END. The game ended up going down to the wire. Score: 12-6. 11 seconds left in the game, no timeouts left for anyone, they have the ball on our 5 yard line (meaning they are 5 yards away from a touchdown.) The crowd is screaming, the adrenaline is pumping, and then the ball was snapped. Hand-off down the middle. Their running back makes it to the 3 yard line, gets hit, fumbles, one of their lineman picks it up, 1 yard away from the endzone. Our middle linebacker hits him inches away from the goaline and holds him there until me and our safety come and help Rigo tackle him on the one yard line. We win the game, crowd going bonkers, everyone jumping up and down and screaming. It was awesome. Y'all should have been there.
Game 2 will be on Friday, at 7:30 PM. We will play Hickory Grove Baptist, a team that won their first game as well. I'll give recaps like this for all of our games. Sorry if it bores you...you will just have to get over it. ;-)

Sounds cool. Congratulations!
YAY! That was fun getting on here and seeing "Win." And I read every word and it wasn't boring at all. I know enough about football that I could picture that last play at the end of the game! It sounds thrilling. Wish I could have been there. =)
But I'm also confused. From what I've gathered, you play on defense. But your blogger "About Me" says that you start wide receiver, which is an offensive position. What position do you *really* play?
Ooh, spiffiness!!!! :-) And believe it or not, I actually understood the whole post. *g*
Congratulations!
Check this out, Eth...

Needless to say, our car trips this past week were long and we had fun. =)
Re your question on the picture, Shan, yes, it does look real! I assume you used the GIMP. You did an exceptionally good job on that cutout. You can tell by the top of his head that he was superimposed, but I believe you did better than I would have. :-) Cutouts, especially on that scale, are HARD, and I still haven't figured out a good way of doing them.
Wow. I feel like such an idiot reading all the girls comments. They all understood everything you said. I read it all, and I got the general idea, but I really am so clueless about football. *is worthless* Sheesh. lol
Well, congrats on winning, Eth! I was really excited for you when I got your text on Friday. :) It was fun going back and forth with you for a while. *grins*
You should get back on the JI forum if you get the chance! We'd love to have you around again, especially now that Manuel and Jonathan have gone off to college and have been extremely silent on the forum for the past few days. lol
God bless, Ethan!

Hey Eth,
If you're not doing anything tomorrow at noon, you should get on the Schola test session just for fun. Maybe you could even "sing" us a song. Oh wait; by the time you're done "singing," we'll probably all be wishing that WebEx sound didn't work. ;-)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ETHAN!!!!!!
Ethan, you're awesome, and you know it, but since you're seventeen, that automatically makes you even *more* awesome than before. ;)
May the Lord bless you as you enter into your seventeenth year, and may you always seek to walk in his ways. :)
God bless you today and always, Ethan, and have a wonderful birthday!!
